- What’s a fun fact about you?
I absolutely love football! Before working in childcare, I played semi-professionally and later went on to coach an under-11s girls’ team. These are both experiences that strengthened my passion for teamwork, confidence building, and helping children reach their potential through sport. I’ve brought that same enthusiasm into the nursery, where I now run short football sessions to help the children develop coordination, confidence, and social skills all while having lots of fun!
- What is your favourite thing about coming to work?
My favourite thing about coming to work is being surrounded by the calm and beauty of our rural setting. Every day feels unique, whether it’s listening to the birds, exploring the allotment, or taking walks through the village, there’s always something peaceful and grounding about our environment. I love that the children get to experience village life, waving to neighbours, visiting local spots, and learning about nature firsthand. It’s such a special place where community, curiosity, and the outdoors come together to create the perfect learning environment.
- Why did you choose to work in early years education?
I chose to work in early years because there’s nothing more rewarding than being part of a child’s first steps in learning and discovery. Watching their confidence grow, hearing their laughter, and knowing you’ve helped shape those early foundations is something truly special. Every day brings new moments of joy, curiosity, and connection, it’s a privilege to be part of their journey.
- What passions do you have within the Early Years curriculum?
I’m particularly passionate about promoting independence and celebrating each child’s individuality. I believe that every child should feel confident to try things for themselves, make choices, and take pride in their achievements, no matter how big or small. I love creating opportunities that encourage curiosity and self-belief, helping children to develop a strong sense of “I can.” Inclusive practice is also at the heart of everything I do. Every child deserves to feel valued and represented, and I take pride in adapting activities and environments so that all children can thrive in their own unique way.
- What’s the best thing about Buttercup Barn?
The best thing about our nursery is the incredible sense of community and connection that runs through everything we do. We’re so lucky to be in a beautiful rural setting, surrounded by nature and supported by the local village. Our children have the freedom to explore, discover, and learn through real-life experiences, from caring for our chickens to growing food in the allotment. The team is truly passionate, supportive, and dedicated to creating a nurturing environment where every child feels valued, confident, and inspired to learn. It’s a special place that feels like a family.
- How do you create family partnerships at Buttercup Barn?
Building strong, trusting partnerships with families is a key part of everything we do. We see parents and carers as their child’s first and most important educators, and we work closely together to ensure every child feels supported and understood. We maintain open communication through daily handovers, online updates, and regular parent meetings, always encouraging families to share their ideas and feedback. Families are also invited to be actively involved in nursery life, from joining celebrations and community events to contributing to projects like our allotment and Eco-Schools journey. This shared involvement helps create genuine connections and a wonderful sense of belonging for everyone.
